Our Story
The Spiritan Dream Centre (SDC) was founded in 2025 by Rev. Fr. Atuguba Maxwell, C.S.Sp., a Holy Ghost (Spiritan) Priest who dedicated nearly a decade of his life working among the marginalized Pokot community in the North Rift Valley of East Africa–Kenya. His mission was inspired by the Spiritan Rule of Life (SRL), which reminds us:
“We count the following as constitutive parts of our mission of evangelization: the integral liberation of people, action for justice and peace, and participation in development. It follows that we must make ourselves advocates, supporters, and defenders of the weak and the little ones against all who oppress them.” (SRL No. 14)
Guided by this Spiritan vision, Fr. Maxwell went beyond the call of duty, initiating and implementing transformative programs in education, healthcare, and integrated livelihoods among the Pokot people—programs that brought lasting change and dignity to many lives.
Today, that same passion and mission are carried forward through the Spiritan Dream Centre in Ghana. The Centre is dedicated to tackling socio-economic challenges in the savannah regions of Ghana, with a special focus on the plight of vulnerable girls known locally as “Kayayei” (head porters). These young women, often migrating from the north to southern cities, face systemic poverty, exploitation, and lack of opportunities.
SDC’s mission aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) No. 5: “Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls.” This goal and its seven targets emphasize women’s economic and social freedoms, justice, and opportunity. Our work also supports Ghana’s National Gender Policy spearheaded by the Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection, which seeks to mainstream gender equality and women’s empowerment into national development.
Drawing from years of hands-on missionary and social development experience, SDC seeks to offer local solutions to local problems. We work in collaboration with partners, governments, and grassroots organizations to fill in critical intervention gaps, especially in support of vulnerable girls. By doing so, we envision a society where every young woman has access to education, livelihood, dignity, and a future free from poverty.
At Spiritan Dream Centre, we are more than an NGO. We are advocates, supporters, and defenders of the weak, walking with the marginalized and creating pathways of hope where no one is left behind.
